Fraunhofer AISEC is one of 15 research institutes cooperating within Research Fab Microelectronics Germany (FMD). It has been part of the Fraunhofer Group for Microelectronics since 2016.
Fraunhofer AISEC contributes to FMD as an expert in hardware security and trusted electronics. An important contribution in this regard is involvement in the Advanced Packaging and Heterogeneous Integration for Electronic Components and Systems (APECS) pilot line in the context of the EU Chips Act (-> link to press release).
Fraunhofer AISEC
- develops security chiplets and analyzes heterointegrated systems.
- develops hardware trust anchors that authenticate chiplets and their components to establish comprehensive trustworthy systems. Security is based on primitives like key storage and tamper protection.
- designs RISC-V-based security solutions that make optimal use of chiplet architecture.
- provides a standardized process in a protected environment for security analyses from preparation to function testing.
As a cooperation between the Fraunhofer Group for Microelectronics and the Leibniz Institutes FBH and IHP, the Research Fab Microelectronics Germany (FMD) is the central point of contact for all issues concerning research and development in the field of micro and nanoelectronics in Germany and Europe. As a one-stop shop, FMD has been combining scientific excellence, application-oriented technologies and system solutions of the 15 cooperating institutes from the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft and Leibniz Association into a customer-specific offering since 2017. With more than 5,400 employees and a diversity of expertise and infrastructure, the virtual umbrella organization of FMD is the one of the largest associations of its kind in Europe.
